Message of Congratulations
Kenyukai Uechi-Ryu Karatedo Association
Chairman: Kiyohide Shinjo
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the founding of Desa School of Karate , I extend my heartfelt congratulations.
The founder, Sensei Manuel deSa, is an exceptional karateka and instructor who has devoted himself to the lifelong cultivation of both body and spirit. Through his unwavering dedication, he has guided many students not only in the practice of karate, but also in the development of character, discipline, and integrity.
Karate, which originated in Okinawa, has long been cherished as a “martial art of peace.” While preserving its rich traditions, it has spread throughout the world and is now practiced and appreciated by people in 195 countries, with an estimated 130 million practitioners worldwide.
To sustain and develop a dojo over the course of thirty years is by no means an easy path. It is a journey marked by perseverance, commitment, and the overcoming of many challenges. Over these three decades, his eldest son, Matthew, and his second son, Noah, have grown into capable successors, and the dojo has nurtured many outstanding students. These achievements are truly commendable and worthy of the highest respect.
In recent years, sport karate has gained increasing international recognition, with growing participation in world championships and even the Olympic Games. Through the training of competition referees and the contributions of international judges, the dojo has also made significant contributions to the advancement of karate at the competitive level.
At the same time, by upholding the true spirit of budō at the heart of its practice—placing emphasis not only on technical mastery but also on personal growth and character—the dojo established by Sensei deSa stands as a true embodiment of these enduring values. In doing so, it has brought inspiration and pride to many, and is also a source of great pride for the Okinawan Kenyukai.
It is my sincere hope that the spirit of Kenyukai will continue to flourish throughout the world and be faithfully passed on to future generations.
In closing, I wish Sensei deSa, his family, and all members of the dojo continued health, success, and prosperity, and I pray for the continued growth and flourishing of Desa School of Karate.
